Mindset by Carol Dweck

Three Takeaways:

  • There will be uncertainty

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that there will be uncertainty. You don’t have to have everything figured out, but think about that one next step. Eventually the bigger picture will become clear.

  • Lead Yourself First

Leadership isn’t about leading someone who is subordinate to you or telling people what or how to do something. At the core of all good leadership is self leadership. Self leadership can dramatically influence your success. Listen to learn about the law of the lid and how that can impact your organization.

  • Lead Others Well

The most helpful leadership advice is to be incredibly clear about what you expect from your team. To be clear is to be kind. Also offer your team members unending support and challenge them to stretch themselves.

Summary:

Anything worth accomplishing will take time, and the seasoned entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs know nothing can be accomplished without the right team around you to help lead the charge of your vision. But for many of us, whether newly inducted into a leadership role or a person who has been used to working alone, growing a team and investing in others to grow their leadership is somewhat of a challenge.

Today, we are honored to have Heather Zempel on the podcast. Once a biological engineer on Capitol Hill, the now-discipleship pastor and campus ministries director at Mark Batterson’s National Community Church talks to us about the importance of team building, what to look for when adding someone to your team, and the right ingredients to developing leadership on your team.

Three Takeaways:

1. Build the Best Team
Make sure these three types of people are sitting around your table: Someone who can bring something to the table through experience and expertise; someone who can bring someone else to the table (think brand evangelist); and someone who can learn something through this process. These three types of people bring experience, more voices, and innovation to any process.

2. Remember Alignment is Key
Clearly communicate your vision, expectations, and be intentional about creating the culture you want on your team. When you’re communicating well and growing together, your team will be one that lasts through the ups and downs of anything you face.

3. Develop Other Leaders
When trying to cultivate leadership in those on your team, make sure you maximize your time by continuing your own growth, whether through reading or listening to podcasts; follow another leader you admire and ask how you can help them promote their vision; focus on your own growth through accountability and intentionality.

Why You Should Rethink Finding a Mentor

November 23, 2018 by Launch Youniversity Leave a Comment

The word “mentor” can stir up a lot of emotions for the career-driven launcher. If you have a mentor, the word probably makes you happy. If you don’t have one, the word probably makes you feel uncomfortable, pressured and lacking.

Our most-asked question on The Launch Youniversity Podcast is: How do I find a mentor? (That very question, in fact, is what gave the Launch You team the idea to start a podcast.) [Read more…] about Why You Should Rethink Finding a Mentor

3 Keys to Growing Your Business

October 31, 2018 by Launch Youniversity Leave a Comment

One struggle most early launchers face is wanting to grow big and grow fast. You’re passionate, you have an idea you believe will win, and you want to see it succeed.

However, most companies don’t get big overnight. So instead of focusing on getting bigger, make it a priority to get better. The “getting bigger” will come naturally. Truett Cathy once said, “If you’ll get better, people demand you get bigger.” [Read more…] about 3 Keys to Growing Your Business

October 26, 2018 by Launch Youniversity Leave a Comment

Launchers are great at spotting a need or a problem. But not only are entrepreneurs good at spotting the holes, they are wired to fulfill the need and become part of the solution. That is when most successful businesses are created.

However, it isn’t without competition. Whether you are just starting your business in a sea of solutions, or you want to stay relevant years down the road, you must stand out. How do you set yourself apart from the competition? [Read more…] about How to Have a Stand-Out Business
