Summary:

Whether you’re starting off on your own or making a shift within an existing company, your launch will look different from everyone else’s launch. No matter what it looks like, using the previous experiences and insights you’ve gained working elsewhere will benefit you greatly. Today, our co-hosts, Shane Benson and David Farmer, talk with Bryan Coley, the founder of Reel Experiences, a company that uses movies as a way to connect people with their family, friends, and coworkers. Together, they discuss Bryan’s journey to entrepreneurship, what his leap looked like, and how he leveraged past experiences to help him accelerate his future.

Prototype: The Third Step in the Launch Sequence

Three Takeaways:

  • Leverage your past experiences. What you learned in your previous role can and should be applied to all of your current and future roles. Bryan shared how he used his theater background as a stepping stone to his current role of connecting people through movies. Keep in mind what worked and didn’t work in your previous positions and apply that knowledge where you are now.
  • Growth requires discipline. Bryan shared how, in the past, he seemed to stay in a perpetual state of “startup mode,” and not really progress to the next steps in his business. It shows great maturity to know when it’s time to put a strategy in place to elevate you to the next level.
  • Use what you have. Sometimes, you’ll miss out on the perfect opportunity because you’re waiting for the “perfect time” to take the first step. Start where you are and do what you can with what you have.

You Have Everything You Need to Launch Today

March 26, 2019 by Launch Youniversity Leave a Comment

One of the biggest obstacles to launching—if not the biggest—is simply getting started.

At Launch Youniversity, we hear from people all the time who tell us they want to start a blog, but they can’t afford a web designer. Or, they want to start a podcast, but they don’t know how to find an audio editor or how to buy the right microphone. Or, maybe they want to start a motivational YouTube channel, but they can’t yet afford a 4K camera; and they don’t have a nice studio in which to film. And sometimes, they have everything they need…except for an audience with which to share it.

We let fear of being anything less than perfect get in the way of starting our dream business or platform. [Read more…] about You Have Everything You Need to Launch Today

Summary:

Many ideas never make it off the table because that’s all it is: an idea. Sustainable ideas are an answer to a problem or need; and, as launchers, it’s important we define a problem and establish a solution with our ideas. Hannah Gronowski saw a need in her community, to inspire millennials to live purposeful lives. With a little fear and trepidation, she launched Generation Distinct. She didn’t know what direction it would take, nor did she have all the players; but, she leapt into entrepreneurship and has learned valuable insights along her journey. Hear her thoughts on taking risks, why mediocrity is OK in certain situations, and more in today’s episode.

Three Takeaways:

1. Share your idea with others.
Do you have an idea, but you’re not quite sure what to do next? This is a great time to get others involved. Like Hannah shared in today’s podcast, at Generation Distinct’s inception, she involved a lot of people in the early stages to get feedback on her idea. Start sharing your idea with community leaders and people you trust to refine it and take it to the next level.

2. Don’t wait for permission.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do is start. Often, people wait for the “perfect” timing or strategy, but it’s better to start and improve rather than not start at all. Some of the best ideas are the ones with humble beginnings. There will be plenty of time to clarify your vision.

3. Focus on one area.
It’s impossible to excel in all areas of your business; so instead, focus on one area to improve before moving on to the next. Then, invite other players to do the things you don’t excel in.
